Mines to Minds - Qld Education Trust Premier Anna Bligh has launched a plan to use the State’s resources to fuel the education of the next generation of Queenslanders.
From Mines to Minds: A proposal to establish a Queensland Education Trust, the paper proposes the establishment of a the Queensland Education Trust using 50% of future LNG royalties – projected at more than $1.8 billion in the next 10 years alone.
Queensland’s resources boom provides a unique opportunity for all Queenslanders to benefit for years to come, particularly our children.
It is projected that royalties from the state’s Liquefied Natural Gas projects will increase from approximately $120 million in 2014-15 to $985 million in 2031-32.
Ideas being considered include: • Individual Trust Accounts for Education – an individual endowment that would mean every newborn child would have a nest egg valued between $7800 and $9500 when they turn 18 or;
• Dedicated Education Fund: an investment fund where the proceeds are reinvested by Government in education and training initiatives beyond the basics throughout the schooling years and potentially beyond.

Comments on Indian shopkeepers by One Nation’s candidate in Ashgrove must prompt Campbell Newman to state once and for all where he stands on the party, says Member for Ashgrove, Kate Jones.
“The comments by One Nation’s candidate, the State Director of the party, demand an answer from Mr Newman on the very simple question: What does he think about One Nation and its divisive policies?” Ms Jones said.
“For five months now, ever since One Nation said it would contest Ashgrove, Mr Newman has tried to get away with simply referring to his party’s just-vote-one strategy and saying people shouldn’t flirt with minor parties.
“Not once in five months has he come clean with his opinion on One Nation and its policies.
“It’s time for voters in Ashgrove to know whether he is willing to be honest and say where he stands, or if he himself is flirting with One Nation voters,” Ms Jones said.
